Carers lead busy lives with lots of responsibilities, and most find it difficult to find time to recharge and reconnect. For many carers, this busy life can, over time, become normalised. But it’s important to make time to rest, reflect and do activities you enjoy because it will help you sustain your health, wellbeing and caring role.
While being a carer can be rewarding it can also be stressful. Learn how to balance your caring role with caring for yourself and the other responsibilities in your life.
Being able to communicate information accurately, clearly, and as intended is an essential life skill. Communicating as a carer can be complicated, especially when you need to communicate on behalf of the person you care for.
There are many reasons carers find it difficult to be socially connected. Maintaining your social connections can be hard when the person you care for, family or friends may not understand the practical realities of caring and the importance to your health and wellbeing.
While inadequate sleep may be unavoidable at times for carers, recognising the impact is important. It is helpful to know how your mental, emotional and physical functioning are affected.
Carers can sometimes find themselves feeling powerless or in confusing situations, especially during times of crisis. There are some “legal” matters that you should be aware of in your caring role.
